Renate Brauner, Vienna's State Minister of Finance, Economy & International Affairs, attended the Chicago Forum on Global Cities from June 4 to 9, 2017.
On June 5, she met with representatives of the Department of Planning and Development at City Hall, followed by a networking reception on “smart cities” with the Austrian business community, hosted by Peter Sedlmayer, Austrian Trade Commissioner in Chicago, and Reinhold Krammer, the Austrian Honorary Consul.
On June 6, Ms. Brauner hosted a networking lunch reception with the keynote speaker, Prof. Jeffrey Rosensweig, Director of the John Robson Program for Business, Public Policy, and Government on the topic of "The Global Economic Outlook: BREXIT, Trumponomics, Opportunities, and Risks."
Over the next days, Brauner attended the Chicago Forum on Global Cities 2017, organized yearly by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Financial Times, which included panel presentations and discussions on globalization, the threat of blackouts, urban crisis and migration, the future economy, climate change, etc. by keynote speakers of caliber like Helen Clark, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, or Carl Bildt, the former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Sweden.
The Forum was preceded by a "private mayor’s roundtable" featuring Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, former Chief of Staff of President Obama, and host Ivo Daalder, President of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
