Cobario Perform at H.D. Cooke Elementary School
Austrian world music trio Cobario performed at H.D. Cooke Elementary School on June 29, 2018 as part of the Concerts in Schools - series of Washington Performing Arts (WPA). The concert was attended by some 100 students aged seven to nine. Cobario took students on a musical journey around the globe, talked about their music, their inspiration, and their travels. A song entitled "Gulasch" was particularly well-received by the young audience and inspired spontaneous dancing.
Grand Decoration in Gold for Dieter Ungerboeck
On June 12, 2018, Dieter Ungerboeck, the former Austrian Honorary Consul in St. Louis, Missouri, was awarded the "Grand Decoration in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria" for over two decades as Honorary Consul by Christian Brunmayr, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC.

The United States Secretary of Energy Rick Perry hosted the European Union and members of the Three Seas Initiative for a meeting at the Department of Energy in Washington, DC. As part of day one of World Gas Week, energy leaders discussed ways the industry can promote energy security while highlighting the ongoing importance of Transatlantic cooperation. The Republic of Austria was represented by Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner.

Austrian Studies Association Annual Meeting
The Austrian Studies Association (ASA), presided by Professor Gregor Thuswaldner (North Park University), held its Annual Conference at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT from May 30 to June 1st, 2018. The conference, under the theme "Austria and the East," brought together scholars and graduate students from the United States, Canada, and Europe to present their latest research in areas ranging from history to literature and musicology.

It showed off all their hard work and dedication (including a tasting of authentic Austrian apple strudel, a violin recital and a Viennese waltz dance performance.)

Ambassador Waldner in Chicago
From April 9 to 12, 2018, Austria’s leading diplomat in the U.S. visited Chicago, in the midwestern state of Illinois. At City Hall, Ambassador Waldner received a warm reception by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. His visit to the "Windy City" also included a luncheon at the Chicago-office of the American Jewish Committee.
