Representatives of several Austrian companies visited the Washington, DC area between June 20 - 22, 2018 to attend the SelectUSA Investment Summit 2018 at National Harbor, MD.

On June 6, 2018, a Dialogue-Series event took place at the International Student House of Washington, DC (ISHDC) as an off-the-record discussion with the Troika-Presidency of the Council of the European Union. #eu2018at

From June 26-28, 2018, First President of the Austrian National Council Wolfgang Sobotka visited Washington, DC for the #eu2018at kickoff reception and celebration at the Austrian Embassy and for a series of bilateral meetings on Capitol Hill. 

Austrian world music trio Cobario performed at H.D. Cooke Elementary School on June 29, 2018 as part of the Concerts in Schools - series of Washington Performing Arts (WPA). The concert was attended by some 100 students aged seven to nine. Cobario took students on a musical journey around the globe, talked about their music, their inspiration, and their travels. A song entitled "Gulasch" was particularly well-received by the young audience  and inspired spontaneous dancing.

On June 12, 2018, Dieter Ungerboeck, the former Austrian Honorary Consul in St. Louis, Missouri, was awarded the "Grand Decoration in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria" for over two decades as Honorary Consul by Christian Brunmayr, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC. 

On the occasion of the 2018 Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner hosted a reception and celebration at the Austrian Embassy on June 27, 2018. 

The United States Secretary of Energy Rick Perry hosted the European Union and members of the Three Seas Initiative for a meeting at the Department of Energy in Washington, DC. As part of day one of World Gas Week, energy leaders discussed ways the industry can promote energy security while highlighting the ongoing importance of Transatlantic cooperation. The Republic of Austria was represented by Ambassador Wolfgang Waldner. 

Karin Kneissl affirmed there was no alternative to addressing common problems by mechanisms of effective multilateralism, and called for support as Austria pursues membership in the U.N.’s Human Rights Council for the 2019-2021 session. 

On the occasion of his first official visit to the State of Alaska, Consul General Andreas Launer, accompanied by Austrian Honorary Consul Wally Hickel Jr., met Governor Bill Walker on June 6, 2018 at his office in Anchorage.

In honor of World Press Freedom Day on May 3, 2018, the Embassy of Austria hosted a panel discussion entitled Freedom of the Press: Still the 4th estate? featuring Washington, DC- reporters Paul Farhi (The Washington Post), Evan McMorris-Santoro (Vice News) and John Walcott (Reuters), as well as Hannelore Veit (ORF - Austrian Broadcasting Corporation) and Eric Frey (Der Standard) from Austria.

The Austrian Studies Association (ASA), presided by Professor Gregor Thuswaldner (North Park University), held its Annual Conference at the University of Vermont in Burlington, VT from May 30 to June 1st, 2018. The conference, under the theme "Austria and the East," brought together scholars and graduate students from the United States, Canada, and Europe to present their latest research in areas ranging from history to literature and musicology.

On May 29, 2018, students from John Eaton Elementary School in Northwest Washington DC gave their final presentation about Austria, their adopted country. It showed off all their hard work and dedication (including a tasting of authentic Austrian apple strudel, a violin recital and a Viennese waltz dance performance.)

The GER Business Award is granted every year since 2008 to recognize entrepreneurial spirit of high school sophomores in Washington DC. This year’s winners Felicia Erb, Lea Kroemer, Sabina Maestle, and Kim Oltmanns were awarded for their company MBrace and its product, the safety bracelet BracHer. #TimesUp

On May 14, 2018, Ambassador Waldner presented the “Decoration of Merit in Gold” bestowed by the Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen to Nora Pouillon, a natural foods pioneer and one of Washington, DC's most celebrated chefs. #TasteOfAustria

On May 12, 2018, the Austrian Embassy in Washington, DC opened its doors to the public as part of the EU Embassies' Open House Day. Over 3,000 visistors dropped by to get a #TasteOfAustria.

On the occasion of the 2018 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group, Austrian Federal Minister of Finance, Hartwig Löger and the Austrian Central Bank Governor Ewald Nowotny visited Washington, DC for a series of meetings.

From April 9 to 12, 2018, Austria’s leading diplomat in the U.S. visited Chicago, in the midwestern state of Illinois. At City Hall, Ambassador Waldner received a warm reception by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. His visit to the "Windy City" also included a luncheon at the Chicago-office of the American Jewish Committee.

CNN anchor Jake Tapper discussed his new book, “The Hellfire Club” at the Austrian Embassy on April 25, 2018. The event was hosted by the PEN/Faulkner Foundation, who welcomed Mr. Tapper within the framework of a luncheon and book talk.

On April 24, 2018, Markus Mueller, Rector of the Medical University of Vienna, bestowed an honorary doctorate on Austrian-American neuroscientist Dr. Eric Kandel. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and the former President of Austria, Heinz Fischer, attended the ceremony in Vienna, Austria.
