The US-A-Biz Awards, or “WirtschaftsOskars,” are granted every year to recognize outstanding achievements by Austrian companies in the highly competitive U.S. market. This year’s winners, picked by a jury together with the Austrian Trade Commission in Los Angeles are Mostly AI, Wintersteiger, MIBA, KTM, Pankl Racing and arx anima.

In order to facilitate passport applications the Austrian Embassy will host consular days at the Austrian Honorary Consulate in Houston, TX on March 18-20, 2020, where fingerprints for passport applications can be taken. Please note that minors are only fingerprinted from the age of 12, but their personal appearance is required regardless of age.
On September 19, 2019, the Parliament of the Republic of Austria unanimously approved an amendment to the Austrian Nationality Act (sec 58c) in line with Austria’s ongoing endeavor for reconciliation with all those who suffered under the totalitarian Nazi regime in Austria. Effective: September 2020
On January 6, 2020, career diplomat Martin Weiss was officially installed as the Austrian Ambassador to the United States of America. Although Ambassador Weiss arrived in Washington, D.C., last November, he could not formally represent our nation, until his credentials, in the form of a sealed letter from the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, were accepted by the U.S. President. This credentialing ceremony in the Oval Office of the White House marked the beginning of his official tenure in the United States.

On November 18, 2019, the Austrian Embassy hosted American University’s Center for Israel Studies for an event investigating Austrian-Israeli relations. The panel discussion, titled From the Birthplace of Zionism to Austria-Israeli Relations Today, was part of the Center’s Global Israel - series.
On November 15, 2019, diplomatic representatives from all European Union member states planted 30 trees in a Washington city park as a way to highlight the concrete action that we all need to take in combating climate change. The tree-planting effort was led by Ambassador Kirsti Kauppi of Finland, which currently holds the rotating EU Council Presidency.
Consul General Andreas Launer welcomed Vienna City Councillor Peter Hanke at the head of a high-raking delegation to California from November 4 to 9, 2019. Hanke, whose portfolio includes finance, business, digitalization and international affairs, travelled to Los Angeles and the Bay Area for meetings with representatives of the media and tech sectors as well as with scholars at Stanford University.

The Austrian National Library has acquired 15,000 historical negatives and 900 original photographic prints from the personal estate of Yoichi Okamoto (1915-1985). Best known for his unprecedented “all access” coverage of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, the American photojournalist also chronicled life in postwar Austria.
“When entering the museum, you can’t see any signs or clear directions. Many visitors at first don’t know where they need to go. It should encourage them to start a conversation with us or maybe even meet a survivor at our dialogue table”, Vincent Ballweber explains. The 22-year old Austrian is currently volunteering as a memorial servant (Gedenkdienst volunteer) at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in DC. #NeverForget #AskWhy
